Sandra Organ Dance Company dances at The Menil Collection

April 7,8, 10 at at 12:30pm performed inside Richmond Hall, 1500 Richmond
April 9 at 12:30 and 1:30pm performed outdoors in the park across Mulberry Street at Mark di Suveros’s sculpture Bygones

This will the third annual program of site specific dance at The Menil Collection by Sandra Organ Dance Company(SODC). This presentation will premiere new and recently commissioned work by Sandra Organ, Dana Nicholay and SODC dancers. The Richmond Hall programs will feature “THE HAIKU PROJECT” a collaboration done with Writers in the Schools to the actual writings and movements of students elicited in workshops conducted and choreographed by SODC dancers. It will also premiere “LAMENT” by Sam Houston State’s Dana Nicholay and Ms. Organ’s “HOLD THE LINE” as well as ”BOW AND BEND”, works recently performed in SODC’s 6th season.

On Good Friday SODC returns to its favorite sculpture , Mark di Suvero’s Bygones to reprise its two midday offerings of sacred songs and spirituals in keeping with the holy day. “Amazing Grace” , “Were you There” and “O Sacred Head “ will be among the works danced on this beautiful site.
These free public performances attract as many as 100 people with picnics, kids, bikes and lawnchairs to each 25 minute showing. Should it rain, works will be performed in Richmond Hall, where some seating is provided.
