COME AND SEE Sandra Organ Dance CompanyÕs holiday production of
ÒAmahl and the Night VisitorsÓ, with choreography by James
Sewell, at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts - Zilkha Hall on December
15, 16, 2006 at 2pm and at 7:30 pm.
This performance is accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing
communities and will include a pre-performance lesson in American Sign Language
for the audience, courtesy of Illumination Arts!
This
delightful ballet incorporates American Sign Language into the telling of the
visitation of Three Wise Men to the home of a disabled youth and his mother.
The music of ÒAmahl and the Night VisitorsÓ was composed for Hallmark
Television by Gian Carlo Menotti, as a 45-minute opera, sung in English. With the choreography of James Sewell
this jewel makes for a refreshing holiday family tradition! The cast includes
guest artist, Penelope Freeh, (James Sewell Ballet) in the role of Amahl and
Jessica Pohorilla (former Houston Ballet dancer) in the role of the Mother,
joined by Visitors Sandra Organ, Joe Modlin and Jhon Stronks.
ÒAmahl and the Night VisitorsÓ was
underwritten grants from Houston Endowment, The Cullen Trust for the Performing
Arts, TARGET, The Scurlock Foundation, Mithoff Family Foundation and the Texas Commission on the Arts. Sandra Organ Dance
Company is funded in part by grants from the City of Houston through the
